Spencer Chen, PhD

Dr. Spencer Chen received a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of New South Wales (Australia) on the topic of Visual Prosthesis. His interests and expertise are in cortical neural recording, the neural coding of sensory information (visual, somatosensory, and auditory), and the neural basis for behavior decision-making -- bridging human and artificial intelligence. Dr. Chen has extensive experience in array electrophysiology and optical imaging techniques, gained from research appointments at the University of New South Wales (Australia), the University of Sydney (Australia), Western Sydney University (Australia), and the University of Texas at Austin, where he assumed the role of the lead developer of the laboratory hardware and software infrastructure.
